Propel ESA Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? We are here to help. Still have questions or can't find the answer you need? Give us a call at 951-420-6848 today!

  • How does the propel Energy Service Agreement work?

Under the Propel ESA, you receive solar and battery backup as a service with predictable monthly payments instead of traditional ownership, and we handle design, permitting, installation, and maintenance.

  • What happens during a utility power shutoff?

Your battery system automatically powers pre-selected circuits so your critical appliances stay on until grid power returns.

  • How much can I save with the 35% discount?

We capture available State and Federal incentives and apply them directly as an instant 35% discount on your total project cost, then finance the balance for up to 25 years.

  • Is there a warranty on the system?

Yes — 25 years on all roof equipment (panels and micro-inverters) and 15 years on wall equipment (combiner/controller, batteries, and meter collar).

  • What is the Propel ESA Program?

The Propel Energy Service Agreement (ESA) is a Solar + Battery financing program designed to provide you with no upfront cost while allowing you to transition to system ownership later. Your system will initially be owned by a Third-Party Owner (TPO) and will be transferred to you after the first 5 years.

  • Why do I need a Third-Party Owner?

Using a TPO allows you to take full financial advantage of all the State and Federal incentive programs that provide a 35% reduction in the overall cost of the system. These incentives are only available to businesses and are used for your Solar + Battery Storage system.

  • Is this like a traditional Solar Lease?

No. With a typical lease, you are usually billed for the electricity the system produces, so your payments fluctuate. You would be responsible for the residual value (fair market value) of the system when the lease term ends. Leases are typically not transferable when you sell your home, so they would have to be paid off. You also usually don’t receive the full value of available tax incentives.

With Propel ESA, you have all the upside of traditional ownership with none of the downsides associated with a typical solar lease. You get low fixed monthly payments, no mandatory exports, a fully transferable contract, and full ownership after year 5.

  • What if I already have solar?

There are several options depending on your existing solar system and your goals:

    • This program requires installation of solar and batteries, but there is no minimum requirement for either.
    • We can install 1 or 2 solar panels on the roof and up to 8 batteries while tying into your existing solar system.
    • If your current solar is underproducing, we can remodel the whole system or simply add enough panels to offset your electric bill while adding batteries.
  • Can I pay cash for my Solar + Battery System?

Yes. There are many moving parts in this program, and the funding guarantee of a qualified loan program is necessary to facilitate the project through completion. However, after the system is completed and the loan is funded, it can be paid off in full after receiving your first monthly statement with no prepayment penalty.

  • What are the financing terms?

Once you get your Solar + Battery Quote, we will take 35% off the top and you will apply for a loan for the balance (roughly 65% of the system cost). Based on your credit, you may have options from the mid 7% to the mid 9% amortized over 25 years. This loan can be paid off at any time or kept for the full 25-year term with low fixed monthly payments. Your first payment isn’t due until 75 days after completion of your system.

  • Will I still save money on my electric bill?

Most homeowners install solar and battery storage because the combined utility bill and ESA payment are often lower and more predictable than relying entirely on utility power. Actual savings depend on utility rates, usage patterns, and system size.

  • What happens if utility rates increase?

On average, the cost of electricity has doubled in the last 10 years and is expected to double in the next 10 years. One of the biggest benefits of solar is greatly reducing exposure to future utility rate increases. As utility rates rise, solar-generated electricity generally becomes more valuable.

  • What happens if I sell my home?

    Typically, homeowners have several options:

    • Assign the agreement to the new homeowner.
    • The new homeowner may assume the loan if they qualify.
    • Pay off the remaining principal balance of the loan.
  • What happens if I move before the ownership transfer date?

Propel is designed with flexibility in mind. Our agreements provide transfer or buyout options if you relocate before ownership transfers.

  • Can I pay off the agreement early?

Yes. You can pay off the principal balance of the loan at any time after receiving your first statement with no prepayment penalty. Your only additional cost is the interest on the loan for the time you have it.

  • Does the program include battery storage?

Yes. Propel projects include battery storage systems to provide backup power during outages and maximize energy independence.

  • What batteries are available?

Approved equipment can vary based on program requirements. We use Enphase batteries, which are approved for the Propel ESA program.

  • What happens during a power outage?

Since your system includes battery storage and the appropriate backup equipment, your entire home can continue operating during grid outages.

  • Who maintains the system?

Our Energy Service Agreements include ongoing monitoring and maintenance support for the first 5 years. Manufacturer warranties remain in place as listed.

  • Is there a performance guarantee?

We use the latest production modeling software to calculate the proper size of your system. However, if additional electrical loads are added later, this could create a deficit in the amount of power produced. Be sure to discuss any future electrical needs with your sales team, such as adding an electric vehicle, swimming pool, room addition, or converting appliances from gas to electricity.

  • Does solar increase home value?

Numerous studies have shown that owned solar systems can increase home value. The exact impact depends on location, utility rates, and market conditions.

  • Can I add an EV charger?

Yes. Our solar and battery systems have a dedicated output breaker to support future EV charging needs.
